About us
Summer research positions are available in physics, chemistry, and nanoscale materials as part of two Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs - one hosted by the Penn State Physics Department and one hosted by the Center for Nanoscale Science (an NSF-Materials Research, Science and Engineering Center).
REU positions are for ten weeks, 40 hours per week, for current undergraduates in physics, chemistry, materials engineering, applied math, astrophysics. Projects involve working with a team of scientists in a computational, theoretical or experimental research project depending on your interests and availability. Topics span all of physics from condensed matter and nanoscale materials, to atomic physics, to particle astrophysics and gravitational wave. Projects in nanoscale materials also span chemistry and engineering topics. Summer activities include K-12 outreach, professional development training (scientific communication, sustainability in the research lab, grad school prep) social gatherings, hands-on activities, and an end-of summer research symposium where you share your accomplishments.
REU includes a $7000 stipend, housing and some travel expense reimbursement.
