You can find out more about research activities on the Research pages.
Among the non-research program activities are weekly physics seminars and courses addressing rudimentary machine shop techniques, ethics in scientific research, and Physics GRE preparation. An annual highlight is a field trip to the Soudan Underground Laboratory in northern Minnesota, the site of two ongoing physics experiments, MINOS and CDMS - read more about them here. There are also opportunities to interact with REU participants in other disciplines, and in scientific and social activities.
At the end of the program, participants present the results of their investigations in oral and written reports, as well as at two poster sessions - one in the School of Physics and the other in an all-REU science and engineering expo.
Applications for the REU program are solicited from junior and senior undergraduate physics majors who may be interested in post-baccalaureate studies. In addition to a $5000 stipend, participants are provided with on-campus lodging and meals; some reimbursement for travel expenses to and from the Twin Cities campus.
