Academic Level: Undergraduate Students
Description: The Biology Program at the University of Alaska Southeast offers summer research experience to undergraduate students interested in the physiology, ecology, and behavior of marine organisms and the coastal ecology of a temperate rainforest. The UAS Juneau Campus, located on Auke Bay, provides opportunities for hands-on research experience with marine invertebrates, birds, mammals and population genetics. In addition to the Juneau area, field research projects take place in the Tongass rainforest, Gulf of Alaska, Arctic Ocean and Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Student research is supported with funds from the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program and the University of Alaska Southeast. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and enrolled as undergraduate students at accredited institutions. Graduating seniors are not eligible. The program seeks academically strong students interested in research in marine biology or coastal ecology. Minority applicants are especially encouraged.
