Description:
Summer internship programs with Van Andel Institute are designed to provide undergraduate college students opportunities to be mentored by professionals in their chosen research field, to become familiar with the use of state-of-the-art scientific equipment and technology, and to learn valuable interpersonal and presentation skills. The goal of these programs is to expose aspiring researchers and clinicians to exciting advances in biomedical sciences that will help define their career paths. Each year, the Institute hosts 20-25 interns in its laboratories. Summer interns are paired with a scientific investigator and/or their designee for an intense 10-week research experience that provides interns with an understanding of the latest research methods, instruments and testing procedures. At the end of the internship, students give an oral presentation or poster presentation about their experience to the research staff.

For the intern description, eligibility requirements, salary, application requirements, deadline dates and a link to the online application, please visit our website.

Undergraduate students are required to complete their internships in one of two sessions: Session I: Monday, May 10 - Friday, July 16. Session II: Monday, June 7 - Friday, August 13.

For questions on paid research internship programs with Van Andel Institute, please contact Michelle Love at undergrad@vai.edu.

Non-Paid Opportunities: From time to time, Van Andel Institute research labs offer non-paid/non-employee student opportunities for guest students. Guest student opportunities are for students seeking academic credit from their home institutions for their research experiences in our research labs. Active inter-institutional agreements must be in place and a complete guest student application must be received before offers are extended to guest students. For more information on the guest student program, the guest student policy please visit our website.
