About us
Transdisciplinary research and active learning experiences central to the program address governance frameworks, biodiversity conservation, sustainable rural livelihoods and resource-dependent economies, stewardship values, and spatial sciences. Our goal is to build a well-trained, experienced workforce to advance conservation solutions that will ultimately lead to enhanced resilience of socio-ecological systems in Maine and beyond.
This innovative program includes:
1) Participation in a new graduate specialization in Conservation Science; 2) Courses that provide theoretical and research foundations in socio-ecological resilience and science communication; 3) Internships with our federal, tribal, state, or NGO partners; 4) Transdisciplinary research projects; 5) Mentoring by faculty from multiple academic departments.
The NRT assistantship includes an annual stipend plus free tuition and fees and subsidized health insurance coverage. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to receive NRT funding; however, international applicants may be eligible for other sources of funding. We especially encourage women, underrepresented minorities, first-generation students, veterans, and students with disabilities to apply.
'Note that the all NSF-NRT funded programs require students to follow the standard application processes of the institutions hosting the programs and to be accepted prior to their consideration for an NRT fellowship. Please check the program's application requirements and available fee waivers and inquire about costs you could incur as an applicant.
