The ASET REU program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to:1) carry out an independent research project in the aquatics sciences and engineering (e.g., biochemistry, geochemistry, biogeochemistry, geology and earth systems, ecology and molecular ecology, social, behavioral, economics, and sustainability sciences, materials and analytical sciences and engineering), 2) work closely with a faculty advisor and research group in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment, 3) develop field and laboratory skills, 4) develop cohort, communication and networking skills, 5) explore issues of science ethics, 6) exchange ideas with students and faculty at weekly seminars, 7) present summer research at a program wide symposium at the end of the program, 8) participate in field trips/social events in and around the Great Lakes and Adirondacks of northern New York.
Research Topics: Aquatic Natural Sciences, Aquatic Social, Behavioral, Economic, and Sustainability Sciences, and Aquatic Resource Engineering, Environmental Monitoring, Smart Devices and Sensors for Water Management, Materials for Environmental Remediation and Wastewater Treatment.
Participants will receive 1) a $6000 stipend, 2) 1 round trip airfare to and from airport (we book and pay), 3) transportation to and from airport to Potsdam, and 4) and on-campus housing with kitchenette for the 10-week period.
