About us
The scientific theme, The Stressed Life of Cells, unites all the summer research projects and reflects the kinds of biotic and abiotic stressors that cells encounter-stressors such as heat, osmotic fluctuations, ionizing radiation, infection by viruses and bacteria, and mobilization of transposons that affect genome integrity. Our theme also reflects our research on the molecular mechanisms that allow cells and organisms to repair, adapt to, respond to, or avoid stress and the consequences of exposure to such stressors.
Participants must be US citizens or permanent residents. We especially welcome applications from students of under-represented groups in science, or who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds (for example, first-generation college students), or who come from academic institutions with limited resources for research.
