Description:
Undergraduate students who are interested in majoring in a STEM field and affiliated with the Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (VA-NC Alliance) are invited to spend 8 weeks this summer conducting research in biology, chemistry, or astrophysics as part of the VA-NC Alliance Summer Research Program at the University of Virginia. Rising sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to apply, but all applications will be evaluated. Program participants will interact with faculty, graduate students, and other undergraduate students in the core research areas, use state-of-the-art biological, chemical, engineering and astronomical equipment, participate in a hands-on experiences (the astrochemistry researchers will collect data at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) facility in Green Bank, WV), and devote at least forty hours per week to research and other scholarly activities. $4,200 distributed in three installments. Receipt of entire stipend is contingent upon completion of the program.
