About us
Requirements: Applicant must be a full-time student at Benedictine University majoring in physics (if you are not currently a Benedictine student, you will need to be accepted at Benedictine University to be admitted to the RENEW-Midwest cohort). Visit the website to learn more.
Program Curriculum: Participants will conduct research on the detection of kilonova events in large scale astronomical surveys through Python data analysis methods. Along with performing research, students will be mentored by a network of faculty at both Benedictine and the University of Michigan for the duration of the program, with the option to continue their degree studies at Benedictine, should they so choose.
Eligibility: Any U.S. citizen or resident alien (green card) who is an undergraduate student or graduating high school senior, is welcome to apply. We encourage applications from groups under-represented in the sciences.
Stipend: Students will receive a $6,000 summer stipend, plus housing in Ann Arbor for the 10-week duration of the summer research program. Additionally, upon returning to Benedictine to continue studying, funding is available for up to 3 years of research.
