Academic Level: Post-Baccalaureate
Description: The JAX Diversity Action Plan (DAP) Post-Baccalaureate Program in Genomics (gDAP) will focus on research training opportunities and career development programs tailored for trainees identifying with underrepresented groups who aspire to go on to graduate studies and careers in genomics, genome technologies, and data science.
The grant supports a two-year training period focused on genomics and data science. Postbacs become valuable team members as they contribute to lab projects and undertake an independent project under the mentorship of a JAX PI. The training program includes significant training in genomic analysis skills including high performance computing, data organization and data cleaning, R, image analysis, and machine learning with Python. Participants expand their scientific knowledge and professional competencies through participation in our Postbac Journal Club, Trainee Talks series, biannual interdisciplinary Community Read, and the annual JAX Scientific Symposium. Postbacs also benefit from individualized advising and application feedback during the graduate school application process.
