Academic Level: Post-Baccalaureate
Description: Let the Postbacc at JAX help you stand out. MD-PhD programs are looking for exceptional candidates who are ready for medical training and laboratory research. The Postbacc at JAX program supports academically ambitious individuals on the path to becoming physician-scientists, who identify with groups currently underrepresented in the biomedical sciences.
Through our two-year semi-structured training program, postbaccs immerse themselves in a genetics and genomics research project with direct ties to human health and disease: from addiction to obesity, from cancer to fertility. Guided by our Genomic Education team, the program also supports the professional development of trainees through biweekly cohort meetings, individualized feedback on the graduate school application process including essay drafts and interview practice sessions, financial support for MCAT prep and test registration, a travel stipend to attend a scientific meeting, access to JAX conferences and minicourses, bioinformatics training, and access to clinical experiences.
Participants also benefit from JAX's reputation as a leader in genetics and genomics research, dedicated mentors, state-of-the-art research resources, comprehensive scientific services, and a vibrant community of doctoral students and postdocs. Program participants earn over $37,000 to defray cost-of-living expenses and training costs.
