Postdoctoral Associate - Teijaro Lab - The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California

Academic Level:
Postdoc & Early Career

Description:
A Postdoctoral Associate position is available immediately at The Scripps Research Institute in the laboratory of Dr. John Teijaro, whose lab is interested in studying the innate and adaptive immune response to acute and persistent viral infections. Immune suppressive environments during persistent/chronic viral infection prevent excessive immune pathology but also impede the ability of the immune system to eradicate infectious virus from the host. Conversely, excessive inflammation during acute viral infections can reduce viral loads but also lead to severe immune pathology and even death. The focus of the Teijaro Lab is understanding how immune suppressive and pathological environments are generated, maintained and reversed, with a specific focusing on how type 1 interferon (IFN-I) production and signaling regulates these two states. The Teijaro lab is looking at various viral infection models with respect to the above including: LCMV, Influenza, SARS-CoV2 and Measles virus.

Physical Requirements: This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Must be able to work in BSL2/3 with PPE for a maximum of 8 hours (with necessary breaks).

Basic Qualifications: Requires a Ph.D., plus an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Fellows with experience in animal handling in-vivo and in vitro biochemical and immunological assays such as ELISPOT, flow cytometry, ELISA, western blot, PCR, etc...are particularly encouraged to apply.
