Description: Engage in international scientific collaborations at top biology institutes in Japan. This 9-week summer program, funded by the National Science Foundation, will provide you with invaluable research and intercultural experiences as you work with an international team of biologists on CRISPR-Cas9 techniques generating transgenic fish to study genetic elements regulating behavior. After one week of orientation, you and another US student will spend eight weeks at the National Institute of Genetics, the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules at Nagoya University and the National Institute of Basic Biology. Students at all three sites will be working on related projects, with the intent of publishing the joint study.
The program is open to graduate (and senior undergraduate) students in molecular biology with experience in molecular biology techniques. The program provides students with a $5000 stipend, airfare, and lodging in Japan.
