The Summer Research Institute (SRI) is a maritime security-focused research program for undergraduate and graduate-level STEM students. The eight-week intensive program emphasizes critical thinking and multidisciplinary research to generate innovative ideas and solutions to address complex maritime security issues.

SRI Program Highlights:

Students engage in thought-provoking seminars and guest lectures by homeland security practitioners.

Participate in multidisciplinary hands-on research, through modeling and simulation projects, data collection, and real-time analysis.

Attend field visits to port facilities and homeland security operational environments.

Work as part of a motivated team to prepare final reports and present research findings to MSC researchers and DHS officials.

Student Benefits:

Students learn to conduct research under the mentorship of MSC researcher investigators and Stevens faculty members.

Students enhance their professional development through networking opportunities with homeland security practitioners, weekly research presentations and report writing.

SRI student alumni have been afforded unique opportunities to participate in field-based internships with DHS component agencies and have been competitively selected to receive fully-funded fellowships to pursue advanced academic study.

Students from underrepresented communities (women and minority students) are encouraged to apply. Students must be US citizens to be eligible to receive a summer stipend and free on-campus housing.
