WPI Research Experience for Undergraduates in Clean Energy Science and Technology offers chemistry, physics and engineering students an opportunity to join one of many interdisciplinary research teams in WPI Energy Research Group for a summer research project. REU participants will pursue research projects in biomass conversion to fuels, solar energy materials and devices, photophysics of energy materials, and energy efficient devices for high bandwidth communications, and explore the impact of clean energy technology on plant and animal species.

In addition to carrying out cutting-edge research, REU participants will attend weekly professional development seminars and workshops. They will learn about careers in renewable energy industry, non-for-profits and government sector, academic research and STEM education. Program will conclude with the final poster presentation.

We place a strong emphasis on recruiting students from traditionally disadvantaged groups: racial and ethnic minorities, women, and students from low socioeconomic status communities.

Participants receive a $5,000 stipend. Students from outside Worcester area receive on-campus housing and funds for travel to and from Worcester. Conference travel funding will be awarded to winners of the final poster competition who would like to present their REU results at national or regional conferences.
